Boyd Buchanan School announced the hiring of Kevin Orr-Rodriguez as its interim head football coach.

“We are truly excited to have Kevin join our athletics program this season to lead and mentor our high school football team,” said Athletic Director Tommy Brown. “Kevin will bring passion and energy into our football program and has a real heart for the students.”

Rodriguez brings over 22 years of high school coaching experience, with 19 of those years dedicated to high school football.

“Athletics is critical component of our mission at Boyd Buchanan School.

Tommy rose to the occasion of finding and bringing Kevin Rodriguez as interim Head Football Coach,” said President Jill C. Hartness.

Rodriguez began his football coaching career in Florida where he was an assistant varsity head JV football coach for five years. While coaching at Auburndale Sr. High School, Rodriguez highlights included six playoff appearances and advancing to the semi-finals in 1998. He also coached two D1 signees on the defensive line and one high school All-American football player.

Hailing back to Chattanooga in 2003 through mid-2018, Rodriguez’s local football coaching included Soddy Daisy High School and Red Bank High School. During this time, Rodriguez was an assistant coach from 2003-2007, assistant head coach in 2008, and named head coach in 2009.

Previous positions held were offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, and defensive line. Rodriguez handled all aspects of 6A program including all budgeting, travel, equipment, scheduling, organizing camps, and leadership academy.

Rodriguez highlights at Soddy Daisy High School include a playoff appearance in 2010, and advancing to the 2nd round of TSSAA playoffs. He coached a 2011 Region Player of the Year, and a 2010 & 2011 Defensive Player of the Year.

Rodriguez attended Austin Peay State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology with a minor in Physical Education.

A Chattanooga native, Rodriguez resides in the area with his family.
