Kyle Spieles brings in a catch against Clay County

Tuesday afternoon saw the Cumberland County High School football team travel north to Clay County High School to face the Bulldogs and Coalfield Yellow Jackets in a final scrimmage before the Jet football jamboree this Friday. Tuesday’s action was cut short due to thunderstorms in the area, but not before CCHS was able to get productive time in against two solid opponents.

The Jets opened with two touchdowns during the scrimmage’s “goal line” situations, where each offense would start at the 10-yard line and work on finishing off drives. Brandon Dalton and Elijah Tollett scored for the Jets on consecutive plays for the Jets in their second session of goal-line offense.

“When we got down and dirty we got some points on the board,” said CCHS head coach Ken Johnson. “We scored on each team and that’s a positive. The defense has got to step up and stop those teams from putting them on us though. If we can do that then we’ll be alright.”
