Maria Filorimo holds a picture of her daughter Taylor Filorimo, who lost a three-year battle with cancer, as she stands in the dugout of the Fury 97 softball team Sept. 6, 2014, at the Play for Tay tournament at Barfield Cresent Park. Many of the players on the Fury team were friends of Taylor.

The Live 4 Tay Foundation, based in Murfreesboro, is set for its ninth annual Play 4 Tay Softball Tournament.

The tournament features multiple age groups and is played over two days at sites around Rutherford County. The tournament benefits the foundation’s work providing financial assistance grants to families of children with cancer.

In addition to team entry fees, the tournament also provides a chance to give back through sponsorships and volunteer opportunities. A gate ticket to attend costs $12 or $20 for a weekend pass.

The format will feature two pool games and double-elimination rounds thereafter. The tournament runs Sept. 1-2.
