5 takeaways from Week 10 in Memphis high school football

1. Germantown is one win away from its second straight perfect regular season

Despite being held less than 30 points for the first time all season, Germantown (9-0, 2-0 8-6A) pulled off a 28-7 home win Friday. The Red Devils finished last season a perfect 10-0 and have a chance to do it again. The team standing in their way is Whitehaven (7-2, 2-0), which has beaten Germantown in six of their last seven meetings. The exception was last year, when Germantown won on the road 29-21. Germantown hosts Whitehaven on Friday night.

2. MASE loses after suspensions

Freedom Prep (6-3, 6-0 8-1A) beat the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering  46-12 (6-3, 4-2) Thursday night, days after MASE coach Julius Jackson suspended nearly half the team because of poor academic performance. Freedom Prep clinched the 8-1A title with the win, while MASE dropped down to third place. The Phoenix have already clinched a playoff appearance — the first in school history. Jackson said payers may be able to return to action in Friday's regular-finale with B.T. Washington (1-8, 1-5) if they pull their grades up.

3. Christian Brothers, MUS set for huge Friday night battle

Christian Brothers (8-1, 2-0 DII-AAA) and Memphis University School (8-0, 2-0) dominated their competition again on Friday night. The Purple Wave beat Wooddale (6-3) 42-8 and the Owls shut out Douglass (4-5) 57-0. Now the question is: How will they fare against each other? The two teams will play at Christian Brothers on Friday night. The game will feature a number for SEC commitments including William Norton (Georgia), Maurice Hampton (LSU) and Christian James (Vanderbilt). 

4. Lausanne remains undefeated

Lausanne (8-0, 5-0 DII-AA) beat University School of Jackson 41-14 (4-4, 3-2) Friday. The win is No. 35 in a row for the Lynx. Eric Gray rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries. Sky Forrest rushed for two touchdowns and threw for 90 yards. Next week Lausanne hosts First Assembly Christian School (3-6, 1-4) and reigning Commercial Appeal player of the week Cole Putnam. 

5. Kirby, Houston keep rolling

Kirby (8-1, 6-0 8-5A) and Houston (8-1, 4-0 7-6A) have had similar seasons in that they each suffered one early non-region loss and have been crushing opponents ever since. Kirby won 33-20 against Munford (5-4, 3-3), and Houston blasted Collierville (4-5, 1-2) 40-6. Both teams have shown the potential to make noise in the playoffs.
