KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- After a recent official visit and prayerful consideration, Dobyns-Bennett senior Courtney Whitson has decided to decommit from East Tennessee State.

“I want to thank the coaching staff at ETSU for all the opportunities they have given me, but I after much prayer and consultation with my family, I have decided to re-open my recruitment.”

The announcement comes less than two weeks before the start of the early signing period. Whitson had committed to the Bucs last summer.

“I have nothing put the utmost respect and admiration for the ETSU women’s basketball program, especially coach Ezell and the entire coaching staff,” added Whitson. “However, I believe that God is leading me in a different direction.”

Whitson had a long list of offers when she picked the Bucs, but didn’t list a new favorite or even other schools she might be interested.

“I have no idea where I’m being led, but I have tremendous faith and a true love for the game of basketball,” added Whitson.

Whitson is already the all-time leading rebounder at Dobyns-Bennett and second on the Lady Indians all-time scoring list.

This past summer, Whitson, played summer basketball with the Tennessee Flight Silver out of Murfreesboro, a nationally-ranked team loaded with top Division I-level talent. They traveled and played throughout the United States and finished by winning the national championship in Atlanta, Georgia.

Most recently, Whitson led the Lady Indian volleyball team to the state tournament.
