BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Tennessee High baseball star Gavin Cross committed to Virginia Tech last November and made it official on Wednesday by signing with the Hokies during ceremonies at the high school.

Cross led the Vikings to consecutive region tournament bids the last two seasons, even though his time on the mound has been limited because of injuries.

At the plate, Cross swung a key bat in Tennessee High’s high scoring offense, setting school records with 31 extra base hits and 40 stolen bases. Cross ripped 15 doubles, legged out four triple and blasted 12 home runs on the season while batting .475.

Cross expects to be a two-way player for Virginia Tech.

“It’s a dream come true, honestly,” said Cross. “I’ve always wanted to play at a high level like the ACC and Division I and to make that happen is a dream come true.”
