Fairview Jackets tip off boys basketball season with wins
The Fairview High Boys’ Basketball team tipped off the 2018-19 season with a win on the road November 13, defeating Santa Fe, 80-48
Head Coach Trey McCoy said, “The Jackets were able to shake the rust off in the second half by stretching their 14-point halftime lead to a 32-point victory.”
“We got into early foul trouble, and was really forced to change the way we played defense as a team, explained McCoy.
Senior guard Trent Turner sparked the Jackets with an outburst of third quarter points that allowed Fairview to pull away. “He really ramped up the energy, and was able to impose his offensive talents on the opponent’s defense,” said McCoy.
He added, “It wasn’t a perfect start to a season by no means, but it’s nice to start the season with a win.”
Player Stats:
SR PG Trent Turner - 19pts/5 assists/4 steals

For their second contest of the new season, the Jackets traveled 840 November 15 to AAA Independence High School for their first Wilco match-up of the season.
The Jackets were able to silence a rowdy Indy student section, outscoring the Eagles in each of the four quarters.
Fairview was led in scoring by DJ Estes, Bill Eads and Trent Turner. Early foul trouble limited SR C Mason McGowan’s minutes, but Coach McCoy said, “His big play in the final five minutes of the game was the key to the Jackets success.”
McGowan put up 8 points with 9 rebounds and 3 block shots in just two quarters of play. Locke Hord and Garrett Wooten filled the void when McGowan was out by contributing a combined 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. “We count on Locke to contribute in every statistical category on a nightly basis, but having Garrett step in and get 8 rebounds off the bench from a wing position was huge.
The young men representing Fairview High moved to 2-0 on the season with the 71-61 victory over Indy.

On November 20, the Battle for 840 took to the hardwood as Fairview hosted the AAA Page High Patriots.
The Jackets started off slow as Page outscored the home team 20-6 in the first quarter. Fairview made a run to close the half out down 15 points with the score 36-21.
Making adjustments at halftime resulted in the Jackets outscoring their opponents 23-9 in the third quarter.
“Bill Eads’ 4/4 3-point shooting would complete Fairview’s comeback effort, leading to a 62-57 win for the Yellow Jackets, who improved to 3-0.
Coach McCoy noted, “Mason (McGowan) was able to adjust defensively on Page’s center, holding him to only 4 second half points while DJ Estes held Page’s preseason 11AAA All Tournament guard to just 3 points in the game with a tremendous defensive effort while leading us in scoring with 18.”
