Davidson Academy place kicker Lauren Brooks (21) celebrates the team's 39-27 win in the Division II-A BlueCross Bowl state championship at Tennessee Tech's Tucker Stadium in Cookeville, Tenn., on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.

COOKEVILLE — Davidson Academy kicker Lauren Brooks made Tennessee high school football history on Friday, becoming the first female to score a point in a state  championship game.

Brooks, a senior and first-year kicker for the Bears, connected on an extra point attempt with 2:28 left in the first half in the Division II-A championship. It gave Davidson Academy a 13-7 lead.

"I was more focused on the history of us trying to go 13-0," Brooks said. "Even our state championship teams before hadn't gone undefeated."

She had missed a PAT after the Bears' first score with 4:31 left in the half.

"Nerves all the way up here and nerves last night," Brooks said. "I think slept maybe two hours last night. Once I went out for the first one, the second one was just — let's go."

She added two more PATs as Davidson Academy won 39-27.

Brooks entered the championship with 76 points scored, connecting on 70-of-82 extra points and 2-of-2 field goals.

She finished the season 73-of-87 for the season on extra points.

Former Chattanooga Notre Dame kicker Heather Darrow made state history in 1986  when she kicked an extra point against East Ridge to become the first female to score a point in a Tennessee high school football game.
