A rusty Henry County High School boys’ basketball team dropped games to Clarksville Academy and Lyon County, Ky. this weekend at the Christmas Classic held at Stewart County High School in Dover.

On Friday, Clarksville Academy beat Henry County 63-47 and Lyon County knocked off the Patriots’ 69-54 on Saturday. The Patriots’ record falls to 6-7 with the losses.

Henry County will look to bounce back this week with a District 10-AAA battle with Kenwood on Friday and then step outside the district to take on Milan on Saturday. Both those matchups will be at Gamlin Gymnasium. Play begins at 6 p.m. both nights with the girls’ contest with the boys’ varsity game to follow.

 

COUGARS 63, PATRIOTS 47

The Patriots started well by taking a 13-12 lead by the end of the first quarter. John Odoms sank a pair of 3-point shots and added another basket for eight points in the opening frame.

Clarksville Academy began to take control in the second period with the Cougars going on a 17-10 scoring run to grab a 29-23 halftime lead. Henry County got one 3-point basket each from Odoms, Andrew Wimberley and Ashton O’Daniel in the second quarter.

The Cougars had another big scoring run in the third period. Clarksville Academy outscored Henry County 19-9 to push its lead to 48-32. Odoms and Donte Davis sank 3-point shots in the third stanza with Deon Young scoring a basket and a free throw for the Patriots.

Both teams put up 15 points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 63-47. Wimberley hit his second 3-pointer of the game and scored six points in the fourth quarter for the Patriots.

For the game, Odoms led Henry County in scoring with 18 points. Wimberley scored nine with Young adding seven and Davis had four. Scoring three points each were Will Singleton, O’Daniel and Ja’Quis Coats.

Clarksville Academy got 23 points from Daniel Loos with Nolan Johnson adding 12 and Preston Moody scoring 10. Noah Parker chipped in six points with Jermiah Smith hitting for four. Will Martin Jr. and Donovan Harchson both had three points. Thomas Wilson hit for two points.

 

LIONS 69, PATRIOTS 54

In Saturday’s game, Lyon County shot the ball well while the Patriots struggled to hit shots and had several turnovers. That helped the Lions take an 18-11 first quarter lead. Singleton hit two 3-pointers for the Patriots in the first period.

Second-quarter scoring was close with Lyon County managing a 16-15 edge to carry a 34-26 lead into halftime. Donte Davis scored five points, including a 3-point basket, for the Patriots in the second period.

Henry County made an early run to get within six points in the third quarter but Lyon County hit three successive 3-point shots late in the period to wind up outscoring the Patriots 19-16 in the frame. Despite Odoms scoring two baskets for the Patriots, Lyon County carried a 53-42 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Lions finished off the Patriots by outpointing Henry County 16-12 in the last stanza to make the final score 69-54. Singleton hit two more 3-pointers in the last frame.

Singleton totaled five 3-point baskets in the contest to lead the Patriots in scoring with 15 points. Davis contributed 12 points and Odoms finished with 11. Scoring three points each were Coats, O’Daniel, Young and Wimberley. Both Peyton Tomlin and Blake Yearry scored two points.

Complete names of the Lyon County players were not available after the game.
