Eagleville's Makayla Moates was voted area girls athlete of the week for Jan. 7-12.

Moates, a junior guard, received 2,205 of the 4,409 votes (55 percent) while Stewarts Creek's Lauren Flowers collected 1,604 votes (40 percent).

A previous winner of the award, Moates combined for 36 points in two Lady Eagles wins last week. Flowers scored 30 points in two games for the Lady Red Hawks.

Other nominees were Blackman's Iyana Moore, Oakland's Nicole Egeruoh, Riverdale's Aislynn Hayes, La Vergne's LaShawnda Stevens and Providence Christian's Yaubryon Chambers.

The poll closed Thursday morning.
