Dobyns-Bennett uncommitted senior Courtney Whitson has been named as a McDonald’s All-American nominee. 

The official word came down through a release from the McDonald’s Games’ Selection Committee on Wednesday.

Whitson is one of 800 top male and female high school basketball players from across the country nominated for the prestigious chance to play in the 42nd annual McDonald’s All American Games. 

“We are excited to recognize these McDonald’s American Games nominees and give fans a first look at some of the nation’s biggest rising basketball stars,” said Morgan Wootten, McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee Co-Chairman.

The list of notable seniors will be used to identify the top 24 boys and 24 girls to play in the annual event and become a part of a historic basketball legacy.

“As we head into final roster selection, we applaud these athletes for their accomplishments both on and off the court,” said Joe Wootten, McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee Co-Chairman.

Whitson is one of 16 girls’ players nominated from the state of Tennessee. 

With 2,157 points entering Friday’s game against Science Hill, Whitson is second on the school’s all-time scoring list and just 76 points behind front-runner Sasha Morrisette. Whitson is already the school’s all-time rebounding leader with 1,332 including a single-season record of 389 set as a freshman in 2015-16.

Whitson also averages a double-double for her career that includes 76 single-instances of double figures in two categories. 

This season, Whitson has scored 537 points (25.6 ppg) and grabbed 219 rebounds (10.4 rpg) while also dishing out 46 assists.

The final rosters for the 2019 McDonald’s All American Games will be revealed on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN’s The Jump and at 6 p.m. ET on SportsCenter. 

The game will be played on March 27 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The top 24 boys and girls will get to participate in a full weekend of activities and become a part of a historic experience.

Fans can watch the 18th annual McDonald’s All American Girls Game on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. The 42nd annual Boys Game immediately follows at 7 p.m. ET and will also air live on ESPN2.
