Kenwood duo captures male, female athlete of week awards

For the first time this season, Kenwood sits atop the athlete of the week polls as a pair of basketball standouts captured the majority votes for this week's boys and girls athletes of the week in Clarksville for Jan. 21-26.

On the boys' side, J'Quan Ewing was named the boys' top athlete after receiving 51 percent of the vote. He tallied 660 total votes, beating out Northwest's Quin Cross, who finished with 490 votes.

Ewing had 19 points in a loss to Northeast on Friday night.

On the girls' side, it was Kenwood's Jalea Blackman who won convincingly with 91.1 percent of the vote. Blackman had 256 total votes. No other candidate had more than seven votes. She had 14 points in a win against West Creek last week.
