GPS Lacrosse stayed red hot with a dominating performance against Signal Mountain on the road. The Bruisers outscored the Eagles 14-1 in the first half on the way to a 22-5 region win. Eleven different GPS players scored at least one goal in the game and three more tallied at least one assist. The Bruisers are now 3-0 on the spring season, 2-0 in region play.
GPS was in control of the match from the opening draw which was won by Detroit Mercy commit, senior Caitlin O’Brien. In the first 90 seconds, the Bruisers reversed the ball to Maggie Kay Imorde who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
The junior defender would get goal number two less than two minutes later to give the visiting team a 3-0 lead. O’Brien then scored a pair of goals in the game’s sixth minute to stretch the advantage to 5-0.
By the time Stella Newbold scored on a free position shot with 2:28 remaining in the first half, GPS had scored 14 straight unanswered and would put the remainder of the game on cruise control. The Bruisers have outscored their opponents in the opening period of their three games this season, 37-4.
Alex Center and Tatum Spears would both score a pair of goals for GPS in the second half as the Bruisers reached a new high in total goals on the season. O’Brien and Imorde combined for 12 draw controls in the game. Reagan Ziegler finished with six ground balls and three draw controls
GPS is back on the road tomorrow night at Dalton High School. Signal Mountain's next test is scheduled for Saturday in Knoxville against Farragut.
