Former Alcoa High star Randall Cobb is joining the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced Tuesday.

The one-year deal is worth $5 million, according to ESPN.

Cobb, who was a free agent, played eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2014.

The 28-year-old Cobb has 470 career receptions for 5,524 yards and 41 touchdowns.

Cobb helped Alcoa win four state championships and was named TSSAA's Mr. Football his senior year in 2007. Anytime he returns home, he always goes back and visits Alcoa's football stadium.

"It's a must," Cobb told the News Sentinel last year. "It reminds me of who I am, where I come from and what I used to do."

Cobb played two seasons for Alcoa coach Gary Rankin, who won his 14th state championship in December after beating Covington in the Class 3A BlueCross Bowl. Cobb also played basketball and ran track while at Alcoa.

Cobb was drafted in the second round in 2011 by the Packers following a three-year career at Kentucky where he was a quarterback, wide receiver, punt returner and kickoff returner. He made the SEC All-Freshman team at quarterback before moving to wide receiver in his sophomore year. He was named an All-American his junior season.

He was the speaker at the second annual Knox News Sports Awards, presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans in 2018.

Cobb is the second player with a tie to the Knoxville area to join the Cowboys in the last month. Former Tennessee tight end Jason Witten came out of retirement and signed a one-year deal, according to reports. Witten was an analyst for ESPN's Monday Night Football last season.
