Stratford baseball team ties with Cane Ridge, routs Hunters Lane

After a 4-4 extra-inning tie against Cane Ridge Ravens, Stratford bounced back the next night with a 16-2 rout of Hunters Lane. 

On Wednesday, the Spartans held a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning thanks to a two-RBI double from Hudson Pregont and a sac fly from Bo Price – both in the third inning. 

Cane Ridge finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, cutting it to 3-1, then tying it 3-3 in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Stratford added a run in the top of the eighth on a J.J. Stephens RBI single, then Cane Ridge it 4-4 to end the eighth. The game was called after that due to the inability to see the ball with Cane Ridge not having lights on its baseball field.

Josue Espaillat Garcia threw seven innings for Stratford, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out 10. Ethan Hackney threw one inning in relief, striking out one and allowing no hits. 

On Thursday against Hunters Lane, Stratford turned a 4-2 lead after the second inning into a 16-2 run-rule win that was called in the fifth inning. 

 

 

Stratford got RBIs from Espaillat Garcia, Price (2), and Giddens for the 4-0 lead before Hunters Lane closed the gap to 4-2 in the bottom of the second on an error by Rufus Lancio that allowed two runs to score. 

In the next inning, Espaillat Garcia hit a two-run home run to push it to 6-2, before Ja’Quez Hinton stole home to run the Spartan leaf to 7-2. 

Stratford closed out the scoring in the top of the fifth with a nine-run inning, highlighted by two, two-RBI doubles from Sam Buckner and RBI singles from Tomory Stephens, Pregont, J.J. Stehpens and Price.

Hackney picked up the win, throwing three innings and allowing two runs on two hits. Trey Lane threw two innings in relief, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
