The Hillwood Hilltoppers picked up four wins last week, sweeping a two-game series against McGavock and taking wins against Gallatin and Harpeth to close the week out. 

Hillwood 6, McGavock 4

In game one on Monday, a three-run first and second inning powered Hillwood past McGavock 6-4. 

Xavier Gilliam got the scoring started with a steal of home plate, followed by an RBI single from Miller Baker for the 2-0 lead. In the next at bat, Alijah Smythia reached on an error that also allowed Baker to score for the 3-0 lead. 

In the second inning, Gilliam hit a two-RBI triple to push the Hillwood lead to 5-0, followed by a Terry Swift ground out that brought home Gilliam for the 6-0 lead. 

McGavock closed the gap to 6-2 in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch and RBI single from Cameron Smith. The Raiders added runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Jay Kirchner and an error that scored Evan Shirah in the bottom of the sixth. 

 

 

Swift picked up the win for Hillwood, tossing four innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Andrew Spencer threw three innings of relief, allowing two hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Hillwood 14, McGavock 6

The Hilltoppers offense continued to click on Tuesday as Gilliam collected four hits, while James Galloway had three RBIs and Edgar Salinas had two RBIs.

McGavock took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles from J.D. Garrett, Ethan Devogel and Titus White. Hillwood cut into the Raiders’ lead after a passed ball and a Baker ground out plated two runs for the Hilltoppers. 

An RBI single by Garrett in the top of the second pushed the McGavock lead to 4-2 before Hillwood tied it 4-4 in the bottom half of the inning on a Matthew Coyle ground out and Gilliam RBI single. 

Hillwood added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, then exploded for six more in the bottom of the fourth thanks to three straight errors, a hit batter, and another error.

An RBI double from Tres Snyder in the top of the fifth, plus an RBI single from Briant Haley pulled McGavock to within 12-6 before Hillwood added two more runs in the final two innings on an RBI double from Salinas and a sac fly from Swift. 

Jacob Brewster got the win for Hillwood, throwing a complete game and allowing six runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
