GALLATIN – The Bison boys soccer team earned its third win of the season Friday night, beating the visiting Beech Bucs 2-0.

Leading 1-0 at the break, Bison striker Tyler Jessen put the nail in the coffin for Station Camp as Beech dropped to 2-1-1 to start the year.

“Give a lot of credit to Beech,” Station Camp and former Buc coach Jeremy Cooke said. “They played really hard the entire match and we never could match their intensity.”

It didn’t take the Bison long to score their first goal of the match as a Riley Indermuehle pass from the midfield to a streaking Josh Street found the back of the net just six minutes into the match.

“That was a good goal from us, it was a nice counter-attack and good transition to the ball. Josh did a good job of finishing,” Cooke said.

The intensity quickly flipped as Beech then began to attack the Bison for the remaining 30 plus minutes.

“At halftime, we talked to them about matching their intensity,” Cooke said. “We were playing hard we just weren’t playing smart. We must recognize when teams are giving us certain things we have to be smart and take it. I thought we needed to attack the outside more but we wanted to hold the ball at our feet instead of getting out in space. We can’t continue to play one, two possession soccer. That doesn’t give us good chances.”

Defensively, the Bison continued their stellar play to start the season, giving up just one shot on goal to the Bucs.

“Defensively, we played great but it is a matter of turning that defense to offense,” Cooke said. “We need to be able to build out of the back and get the ball moving forward and get the ball at the feet of our playmakers. We still need to continue to try and work outside in. I thought too many times after a great defensive stand we wanted to keep the ball in the middle of the field.”

With 13 minutes left in the match, Tyler Jessen sealed the win beating the Beech keeper for the 2-0 advantage.

“This is when we need our film,” Cooke added. “I can show them what they are doing and where they need to improve. We have a very smart team but once they see their mistakes they can fix it. That works so much better than me just telling them what they are doing wrong. We have a smart team and they will fix their mistakes. The film is only going to help us. When they see us get success by doing the right things it will start to click more for them in game.”

For Beech, Ferguson had all praise for the Bison.
