The Elizabethton softball team rallied in a big way on Monday evening.
The Lady Cyclones plated six runs that was capped by a Madisun Pritchard three-run homerun in the top of the seventh to take an 8-6 victory over Happy Valley in Three Rivers action.
Happy Valley struck first in the home side of the first inning as Macy Puckett hit a single to push Olivia Absher across home plate. After a scoreless second inning, EHS got on the board as Maggie Johnson scored off an error to even things up at 1-1.
Elizabethton took their first lead of the night as Kaylen Shell scored on a Hannah Edwards sacrifice hit n the top of the fourth. Happy Valley, however, answered in style in the bottom of the fifth.
Kadie Havner hit a home run of the left field fence to also score Absher, while Puckett added an RBI single to score Cierra Sutherland to give HV a 4-2 advantage. The Lady Warriors added to their advantage in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back homeruns from Absher and Havner to take a 6-2 lead into the final inning.
Elizabethton wasn’t deterred. After HV started the side with a strikeout, the Lady Cyclones recorded three straight singles to load the bases, and plated a run in the next at bat as Maddie O’Quinn scored off an error. With two outs, Autumn Hensley knocked in two runs with a deep single to cut the HV lead to one – setting up Pritchard’s heroics as her homerun over the center field fence scored Haley Fair and Hensley.
In the home side of the seventh, Happy Valley were able to get two runners on base with one out, but was unable to bring either home.
Johnson was 3-for-4 for Elizabethton, while Shell and Hensley added two hits apiece. Absher and Puckett tallied three hits for the Lady Warriors. Havner went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
In the circle, Kalie Peters picked up the win as she allowed just two earned runs on four hits in just under three innings of work. Pritchard had a strong performance for the Lady Cyclones as well a she allowed just three earned runs on five hits in just over four innings of work.
Olivia Holt pitched a complete game for Happy Valley as she allowed just one earned run on 10 hits.
