Soddy-Daisy Lacrosse Wins 10-4 Over Signal Mountain

  • Friday, April 12, 2019
The annual lacrosse game between cross-town rivals Signal Mountain and Soddy Daisy evolved in a unique way Thursday night. The original game scheduled for Tuesday night was rained out and multiple discussions were ongoing over the past several days trying to reschedule. It just so happened that Soddy Daisy's scheduled opponent for Thursday evening, Blount County, forfeited the game. With the field lined and fans in the stands, an impromptu rivalry game was organized in less than an hour.  While this game was not endorsed by TSLA, it was certified in the hearts and minds of all the players and coaches.

As with most rivalry games, the scored remained close for the first half of the game.
Soddy Daisy (5-3) led 1-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter on a goal by the Trojan's Noah Flinn. Signal Mountain (4-2) pulled even at two goals apiece less than halfway thru the 2nd quarter. Then with less than 2 minutes remaining in the first half, the Trojans caught fire.  Attackmen John Teffeteller and Blake Morrow both scored just before the half to extend the Trojans lead by two. As the second half progressed, the boys from Soddy Daisy would continue the push and extend their lead by 8 goals. The Eagles would score two late goals to round out the scoring.  Blake Morrow led all scorers with 5 goals. Jack Durain also added 2 more goals in the Trojans 10-4 victory.

Next up for Soddy Daisy is a home game Saturday against divisional foe Clarksville.  Signal Mountain travels to play defending state champions Houston High School on Sunday.
