The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 2-1 on the road Tuesday for their seventh loss of the season.
The Rebels took an early lead, but the Golden Eagles jumped ahead in the second half to give the Rebels their fourth straight defeat.
Franklin County head soccer Kent Bean said he thought his team played well in the contest, but a few defensive mistakes opened the door for the Golden Eagles to win.
“We had two little defensive flubs. It happens. You’re not going to hit every ball perfectly,” Bean said. “(Shelbyville) took advantage of those two and those were the only opportunities they really had."
The Rebels got their lone goal within two minutes of the opening kickoff as a long free kick by Camden Eslick was knocked in by Abraham Morris on a header.
The Rebels held the lead for most of the first half, but the Golden Eagles scored three minutes before halftime to tie the score.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.
The Rebels had a few close misses early in the second half as they attempted to break the tie.
The Golden Eagles got their second goal with 23 minutes left in the contest to put the Rebels behind for good. The Rebels had a few more scoring opportunities, but they couldn’t convert them into an equalizer as they lost by one.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 1-7-2 on the season and 1-5 in district play.
They will next play Thursday at home against Coffee County Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
