Arlington has hired Maurice Miller as its next boys basketball coach, athletic director Rebekah Sanders confirmed Wednesday.

"I’m ecstatic about it honestly, just the opportunity, how prestigious the school is, the academics the environment, and the community. I’m just looking forward to being a part of it," said Miller.

Miller coached at his alma mater, Raleigh-Egypt, for the past four seasons. He led the Pharoahs to a 25-7 record this past season. Raleigh-Egypt fell to Fayette Ware in the Class AA region quarterfinals.

"It’s very tough. I think the main thing is my players," Miller said of leaving Raleigh-Egypt. "We built a bond and a relationship that’s bigger than basketball."

Miller played point guard at Georgia Tech from 2008-2011, averaging 5.9 points and 3.0 assists.

"I just think my grit, grind, ambition, and résumé as far as not only coaching but playing the game," said Miller when asked what he brings to Arlington. "And then my youth. I’m only 31 and I can still teach and train and play with the boys."

He replaces Don Deaton, who retired in February.
