Lady Blue Devils Wrap Up Three Rivers Softball Title

ERWIN, Tenn. -- The Unicoi County Blue Devils put the wraps on the 2019 Three Rivers Conference softball title with a 12-1, six-inning victory over runner-up Sullivan East on Tuesday evening.
Samantha Chavez put the bow on the wrapping with a pair of home runs. Chavez cracked a two-run shot in a six-run fifth and gave the Lady ‘Devils a ten-run cushion with a three-run blast an inning later.
Chavez finished 3-for-4, adding a double and scoring five runs. Halie Hawkins and Ashtan Vance were both 2-for-3. Hawkins scored once and drove in two while Vance doubled and drove in one.
Jillian Shackelford and Cayden Bawgus paced East with 2-for-3 efforts at the plate. Bawgus accounted for the Lady Patriots’ only run with a solo home run in the sixth.
Unicoi County (26-5, 11-0) is one win away from a perfect run through the league while East (17-11, 9-2) saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end.
