In a pitching duel, the Happy Valley baseball team came up one run short.

The Warriors dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Sullivan East in the District 1-AA Baseball tournament at Twins Field on Saturday morning.

With the loss, HV falls into the loser’s bracket where they will take on Johnson County at 5 p.m., Sunday in an elimination game at TVA Credit Union Park in Johnson City.

After the Patriots took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Happy Valley answered in the next half inning.

Hunter Smith took a free base with a walk after two outs. Caden Ward and Dylan McKeehan also walked to get on base. Jacob Absher gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead going to the third when he hit a single to center field that drove in two runs.

The Patriots, however, answered quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. From there, neither team was able to get anything going as Sullivan East held on for the win.

McKeehan and Absher each had a hit for HV.

On the mound, Bryce Carter allowed just one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game effort.
