Once Elizabethton finally hit the field in the District 1-AA Baseball Tournament, the Cyclones made sure to make it count.

Elizabethton opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Unicoi County in the winner’s bracket contest that was postponed from Saturday to Sunday night. With the win, the Cyclones advance to Tuesday’s winner bracket final against Sullivan South at TVA Credit Union park in Johnson City.

First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

The win, however, came at a cost as catcher Evan Perkins was injured sliding into second during the game.

In the first inning, Elizabethton took a 1-0 lead Perkins hit a grounder ball that brought Karson Dillard across home plate.

The Cyclones added to the lead in the second as Jacob Mullins hit a double that brought Jaden Anderson in to score, and then a Nico Ashley double scored Mullins. A Bryson Rollins RBI scored Ashley to give EHS a 4-0 lead going to the third.

Evan Carter continued to limit the Blue Devils chances on the mound with a dominate performance. Elizabethton accounted for the final advantage in the bottom of the fifth with two runs.

Carter, Anderson and Ashley had two hits each with Ashley adding two RBIs. Rollins and Mullins added a hit a piece.

Carter finished with 11 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in a complete game performance.
