Baylor School held a ceremony Monday evening to celebrate Christian Stophel signing to continue his soccer career at Auburn-Montgomery.

He picked AUM over West Alabama and West Florida from the same NCAA Division II conference, he said, largely because of the work new coach Matthew Thorne did in building the West Alabama program.

"And it's a very strong business school - that was very enticing - and it has a beautiful campus and a lot of students," added Stophel, a 5-foot-8, 140-pound left forward in his second season with the Red Raiders. The East Brainerd resident previously was home-schooled.

"Christian is fast and athletic, and he's very creative with the ball," Baylor coach Curtis Blair said. "He's a very good one-v-one attacker."
