Annalee Moore and Emma Ladd combined on a six-hitter and Cheyanne Sales and Makala Strickland smacked home runs Monday night as Ooltewah knocked off District 6-3A champion Cookeville, 5-3, in Region 3-3A softball action in Cookeville.
Meanwhile, Walker Valley, which beat the Lady Owls for the District 5-3A tournament title last week, was eliminated from the postseason in a stunning 4-0 loss to Warren County. The Lady Mustangs (28-10) were held to two hits.
Ooltewah (21-13) will play at Warren County (15-10) on Wednesday in the regional championship game at 6 p.m. CDT.
“I’m proud of the girls,” Ooltewah coach Kerilyn Mongar said. “We worked together to get things done. Cheyanne got things started with a home run and that instilled the confidence we needed.”
The Lady Owls got a two-out home run by Cheyanne Sales in the first inning. Sydney White walked and scored on Madalyn Mills’ single to left field and Mills later scored on a Cookeville error.
Ooltewah’s final run came in the fourth on Strickland’s home run to center.
Sales went 3 for 4, Strickland was 3 for 3 and Mills 2 for 4 for the Lady Owls.
