The Sweetwater soccer team defeated Sale Creek 4-0 on Thursday, May 9, to win the District 4-A tournament, helping solidify a strong season for head coach Ricardo Torres’ team.
“It was a good soccer game for us,” Torres said. “I can tell kids are maturing and showing teamwork. Possessing the ball most of the time showed us we control the game. Our players started connecting each other better and knowing each other more in the field.
“I think playing simple and trying to not take unnecessary risk gave us confidence through the game.”
Juventino Guzman scored two goals for Sweetwater and assisted on another, while Jonathan Cano produced another. Gabriel Romero scored one and assisted once, and Sebastian Mora notched one assist as well.
The win changed the Wildcats’ focus to the region tournament, one Sweetwater enters with strong seeding due to its tournament title.
