The Elizabethton baseball team dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones saw Nolensville take a walk-off 2-1 victory on the opening day of the TSSAA Class AA State Tournament at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro. With the loss, EHS falls into an elimination game against Pigeon Forge.

That game is set for an 11am Eastern/10am Central first pitch at Blackman High School.

Runs were hard to come by on Tuesday.

Each team got base runners on in the first and second inning, but came up empty handed as the game remained scoreless going to the third.

In the top of the third, EHS strike as Nico Ashley put the ball in play with a bunt that pushed Ashton Wilson across home plate to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

Elizabethton maintained the lead until Nolensville hit a single to centerfield that scored one run. The Cyclones, however, were able to control the damage as the game went to the final inning tied at one run apiece. Elizabethton was unable to get anything going in the top of the seventh, and the Knights took advantage of an error in the bottom of the seventh to take the walk-off win.

Evan Carter and Wilson each had a hit apiece.

On the mound, Matthew Dailey allowed just one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts in just over six innings of work.
