Ruben Laureano and Christian Holland received proper recognition for their roles in helping Morristown West return to the Region 1-AAA tournament for the first time since 2015.
As announced following the District 2-AAA championship match, Laureano was tabbed the Forward of the Year in the conference while Holland — a Wheaton College (Ill.) signee — earned Midfielder of the Year accolades.
The two seniors finished the 2019 campaign as the Trojans’ top scorers for the season, helping West to a 12-4-3 record and the first District 2-AAA championship appearance of their high school careers.
West teammates Juan Villasenor and Zach Christensen, both juniors, along with freshman P.J. Reyes earned First Team All-District accolades while senior Parker Gair received Second Team honors.
Morristown East featured three players on the All-District team as well, with senior goalkeeper Jared Rohrer earning First Team recognition while fellow seniors Ethan Grogan and Jacob Stansberry garnered Second Team honors.
For Jefferson County, which reached the District 2-AAA semifinal round with a 4-nil win over East in the district tournament play-in round, four players earned All-District recognition. Leading scorer Diego Diaz and Roni Alvarez, both seniors were named to the First Team with sophomores Connor Campbell and Anthony Bernardi picking up Second Team accolades.
Bearden’s Collin Lewis earned District 2-AAA Most Valuable Player honors with teammate Everett Hauser being tabbed Defender of the Year while Bulldogs head coach Ryan Radcliffe once again earned Coach of the Year honors. Knox West’s Carter McAdoo was named the District 2-AAA Goalkeeper of the Year.
Nine Bearden players were named to the All-District team as seniors Caleb Wilkins, Jonathan Meystrik and Finn Harris along with junior Carter Turner earned First Team honors while seniors Sam Patterson, Asiimwe Ironside and Tanner Whited were tabbed to the Second Team as were junior Holden Giesecke and sophomore Jonathan Diaz.
Knox West, which finished runner-up in the regular season standings before falling at home to Morristown West 3-1 in the District 2-AAA semifinal round, placed six on the All-District team. Seniors Marc Caceres Saez and Marc Scherer as well as junior Alex Magnuson were named to the First Team with senior Will Eggleston, junior Joseph Petre and freshman Zander Brown garnering Second Team honors.
