Maryville quarterback Braden Carnes is transferring out of the school, he confirmed in a direct message Monday evening.

Carnes, who is 6-feet, 185 pounds, completed 72 percent of his passes for 1,383 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception last season as a junior.

When asked why he decided to transfer, Carnes said he wanted to wait until officially transferring into another school before commenting on his move.

Last season, Carnes split time with fellow junior quarterback Cade Chambers, who threw for 1,022 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Chambers has offers from Austin-Peay, Indiana State and Tennessee Tech.

Both quarterbacks led Maryville to the Class 6A state semifinals, where the Rebels lost to Oakland. Maryville finished the season 12-2. Maryville's season starts Aug. 23 against William Blount.
