Brent Davis was announced as the new head coach of the Huntland High School baseball program Friday.
Davis has been the head coach of the Huntland Middle School baseball team for the past five seasons, but he got the call to become the head coach of the high school program following the resignation of the previous coach.
Huntland Athletic Director Bob Robertson said that Mike Jernigan resigned from his position as the head coach of the baseball Hornets in May.
Robertson added that Davis has proven himself as an effective coach in his time at Huntland.
“He has coached the middle school team for the past five years and did a good job,” Robertson said. “We had five or six applicants apply, but we thought we were better off giving him a chance.”
Robertson said that Davis has coached a majority of the players on the high school team before which made him an ideal hire.
“He works hard, he knows the kids and the kids like him,” Robertson said. “We wanted to give him a chance to step up and coach at the high-school level.”
The baseball Hornets will begin their first season with Davis as the head coach in March.
