The Franklin County Rebels hosted the Wilson Central High School Wildcats for a preseason scrimmage Friday with varsity, junior varsity and freshmen players in competition.
The event was split into five periods with the first two periods being devoted to the varsity players. The junior varsity players then played for one period, and the players on the freshmen team wrapped the action up with two periods of play.
The Rebels outscored the Wildcats 41-14 over the course of the scrimmage.
The varsity teams started the action as the Wildcats got the first score on the board with a touchdown run.
The Rebels responded quickly as Dakota Waggoner broke off a long run to bring the ball inside the red zone. Riley Ingle then ran the ball in from there to tie the contest at 7-7.
Neither varsity team was able to score for the remainder of the two periods as the squads played to a 7-7 draw.
The JV Wildcats followed in the footsteps of their teammates at the start of the third period as they scored a touchdown to put the JV Rebels behind 7-0.
However, the Rebels capitalized on a fumble from the Wildcats later in the period to tie the contest again as Isaiah Sisk ran the ball into the end zone to make it 7-7.
This was the start of a series of scores for the JV Rebels as Sisk ran the ball in a second time thereafter to put the Rebels in front by a 14-7 margin.
The final score for the JV period came when Deandre Tate intercepted a pass and took it back for a touchdown. The JV Rebels grabbed the win by a score of 20-7.
The freshmen Rebels ended the night by competing against the freshmen of the Wildcats.
Manny Scott got the freshmen Rebels on the board with a touchdown run to give them an early 7-0 advantage.
The freshmen added one more touchdown later in the contest as they picked up a win in the exhibition contest by a final margin of 14-0.
The Rebels will next have an inter-squad scrimmage on Aug. 16 at home as part of their annual preseason picnic and pep rally. The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The Rebels will open the 2019 season on Aug. 23 at home against Coffee County Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
