Jake Marcum, McCallie School Class of 2019 graduate, placed fourth Wednesday night in the men’s 200-meter backstroke at the Speedo Junior National Swimming Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. Marcum’s time was 2:02.36. His preliminary time of 2:00.78 was a personal best.
The Indiana University signee was also listed on the World 100 for his 2018 best time in the 100-meter backstroke as an under-18 swimmer, it was announced earlier this week.
His best time of 56.71 ranked him 80th in the world. The World 100 List recognizes international swimmers 18 years of age and younger in world-ranked events.
Marcum's preliminary swim time met the qualifying standard for the 2020 USA Olympic Trials in the 200 backstroke.
Marcum earned All-America honors this summer in the 100-meter backstroke, as did he and members of the Blue Tornado 200- and 400-meter freestyle relay teams. He was the State Champion in the 200-meter freestyle and a member of the state title-winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.
