After leading Baylor softball to its 11th state title in her 17 years as coach, its eighth in nine years, Coach Kelli Smith was named national coach of the year by Extrainningsoftball.com. The website extensively covers high school, club, college, professional, and national team softball.

Baylor finished the 2019 season with a 39-4 record and was ranked 26th nationally at the conclusion of the season by Extrainningsoftball. The state title was the fifth straight for Baylor and Smith, who won her 500th game in April. Smith also won two state titles in softball at Baylor as a player.

Three players from the Chattanooga area were named High School All-American by Extrainningsoftball, including one of Smith's pitchers, freshman Sydney Berzon.

Berzon was one of 125 players nationally making first team. She was listed as a multi-purpose honoree. The LSU pitching commitment had a 20-2 record and 0.75 ERA, striking out 213 batters in 112 innings. She drove in two runs and earned the pitching victory in the state final, a 2-1 win over rival GPS.

Calhoun High School's Lyndi Davis, a University of Georgia commitment, is a first team All-American for the second straight year. The sophomore catcher hit .517 with 31 walks, seven homers, and 36 RBI.

On the 75-player second team is Sequatchie County's Addy Edgmon, a Tennessee-Chattanooga commitment. Berzon and Edgmon were two of 15 freshman nationally making first or second team. Edgmon helped Sequatchie County to a fourth place finish in the Class AA state tournament, hitting .505 for the season with 41 runs, 38 RBI, and 37 stolen bases in 37 games. Edgmon followed the school season with a strong summer season with the Fury Platinum, once earning runner-up for national club player of the week from Extrainningsoftball.
