North Side running back Haynes Holt received news on Monday that he was not wanting to hear — especially during his senior year.

Holt suffered a triceps tendon avulsion during the first series of the Indians season opener against Beech on Friday. Holt had five carries for 27 yards rushing in before getting hurt.

"He is going have surgery on Thursday, and he will be out for the season," North Side coach Jesse Powell said.

Powell said he was going to have Holt get a second opinion on the diagnosis because of the rarity of the injury. According to Powell, this injury represents 2% of all triceps injuries, and it is most commonly found in 42-year old men.

"Haynes put a lot into this season," Powell said. "He put in a lot of training, and he didn't go on family vacation. He is a great kid, and for that to happen to him, I hurt for him."

Holt was statistically the top returning running back from 2018 as he rushed for over 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Region 6-4A champions. North Side reached the Class 4A quarterfinals last season.
