Unaka came up short in the 2019 season opener.

The Rangers dropped a 32-20 decision to North Greene on Monday evening in the competition of Friday’s suspended game.

Action was picked up at the start of the third quarter with the Rangers trailing 12-8. North Greene added a score midway through the quarter to push the lead to 18-8.

Unaka was unable to get anything going in the quarter as the Huskies maintained a 10-point advantage going to the fourth quarter.

The Rangers, however, weren’t going down without a fight.

Daniel Shearl found Nick Bowers for a 10-yard touchdown pass with nine minutes remaining to close the gap to four points. The Rangers were driving later in the quarter, but North Greene’s Sky Arwood intercepted a Ranger pass and returned for a touchdown with just under four minutes to play.

After North Greene added another touchdown, Landon Ramsey hit Logan Benway for a 43-yard touchdown pass in the final minute to cap the scoring.

Ramsey had 88 yards passing, while Shearl added 67 passing yards to the Ranger cause. Logan Benway led the way as he had 79 yards on the ground and 54 receiving yards.

The Rangers are set to host Cosby on Friday night.
