Cloudland came up short on Friday night.

The ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with South Greene in a 41-22 decision at Orr Field on Friday night. With the loss, Cloudland falls to 0-2 on the season heading into the traditional bye week.

The ‘Landers had to battle back from an early hole.

After CHS went 3-and-out on the game’s opening drive, South Greene’s Luke Myers scored off a 23-yard touchdown run to give the Rebels an early 7-0 lead. The ‘Landers weren’t able to get anything going on the net drive, and SG took advantage as Myers found Justin Sutherland for a 15-yard touchdown pass to give South Greene a 13-0 lead after a quarter of play.

Cloudland, however, didn’t go down without a fight.

The ‘Landers got on the board three minutes into the second quarter as Hunter Shell hit Tristan Lacey for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Connor Birchfield added the two-point conversion to trim the SG lead to five points.

Levi Myers capped off a five-minute South Greene drive with a short touchdown to increase the advantage. However, Cloudland saw Shell and Lacey connect for a 44-yard touchdown pass and Birchfield added the conversion to close the Rebel advantage to 21-16 with just over two minutes left in the half.

The ‘Landers got a big break as South Greene went three-and-out and the snap on the punt sailed over the punter’s head setting CHS up in prime position. Cloudland, however, was unable to break back into the end zone as they trailed 21-16 at the half.

On the opening drive of the second half, the Rebels moved efficiently and a Mark Crum touchdown put SG back on the board. Cloudland moved the ball on the next drive to the one-yard line. However, a fourth-and-goal was stopped just short of the goal line turning the ball over on downs.

South Greene embarked on a 99-yard drive that was capped by a Levi Myers touchdownfrom 26 yards out. Hunter Blair scored with 2:25 remaining in the game, but Cloudland was unable to recover the onside to mount a rally.

Blair led Cloudland with 101 yards on 18 carries, while Birchfield added 51 yards on 12 carries. Shell finished the game 6-of-11 passing for 92 yards.

Lacy had 56 yards on two catches. Bentley Gilbert added 23 receiving yards.
