Elizabethton, Hampton remain ranked in AP poll

Two county teams remain ranked in the second edition of the AP TSSAA Prep Football poll.

Elizabethton moved into a tie for third place with Dyersburg in Class 4A. The Cyclones, who were off this past week, tallied 110 points.


Haywood County was ranked No. 1 with 155 points, while Elizabethton’s Region 1-4A foe Greeneville was ranked in the No. 2 spot – 11 points ahead of the Cyclones.

In Class 2A, Hampton held firm at No. 9 after dispatching Unicoi County on Friday night. The Bulldogs finished with 32 points – just one-point shy of No. 8 Union City and five-points shy of No. 7 Watertown.

Peabody was the unanimous No. 1 with all 16 first-place votes. Meigs County and Trousdale County tied for the second spot.

Elizabethton is set to travel to Sullivan East on Friday, while Hampton is slated to take on Happy Valley on Warrior Hill.
