Gallatin – The Hendersonville Commandos jumped out to a sizable lead at the half, and cruised to a 48-7 win over the Station Camp Bison on Friday night.

After not running an offensive play for the first 8 minutes of the game, Hendersonville made the most of their possessions, scoring on all but the last possessions of the first and second halves.

Station Camp came out fighting early moving the ball into Hendersonville territory, and had an opportunity at an early lead when they recovered a muffed punt by Hendersonville. However, the Commando defense held up and the Bison turned it over on downs at the 2-yard line.

Hendersonville Head Coach James Beasley was pleased to get the win on the night, despite his group not playing the cleanest of games.

“Obviously, we don’t want to turn the ball over in our own territory, and the penalties were way too much for what we expect,” Beasley said. “We got the job done tonight, but we have to look over those things and make sure we get them corrected.”

From there, the Commandos hit a barrage of big plays, starting out with a 76-yard touchdown run by Helton Porter, making the score 7-0.

The Commandos struck again on another big play, when Keion Stafford ran in a 55-yard score, increasing the lead to 14-0.

“We run a three-back offense and we tried to spread the ball around,” Beasley said. “It doesn’t matter who gets the touch, they have the ability and the offensive line can create some seams like they did tonight.”

Stafford struck again, this time from 3-yards out, after a short drive set up by a 16-yard Station Camp punt.

Station Camp Head Coach Shaun Hollinsworth was proud of his team’s effort, while acknowledging that his team needed to get back to the basics.

“We tried to make some adjustments throughout the game, but there are so many intricate things that we need to look at,” Hollinsworth said. “We just need to get back to concentrating on our techniques, because that’s where we are getting beat.”

The Hendersonville defense forced an interception on the next Station Camp drive, when Porter picked off a Max Barnett pass and returned it to the Bison 3-yard line. From there, Issiah Chandler punched it in to give the Commandos a 28-0 lead.

The Bison fought back late in the first half, when Barnett found Josh Williams for a 34-yard gain to the Commando 3. From there, Keshon Jackson ran in the touchdown, getting the Bison on the board and making the score 28-7 at the half.

The Commandos picked up where they left off to start the second half, when David Johnson returned the kickoff 78-yards to the Station Camp 14. Hendersonville quarterback Drew Hohenbrink called his own number, running in a 5-yard score.

The Hendersonville defense got on the board with a scoop and score from Cody Booker, increasing the lead to 42-7.

Noah Carmean put a cap on the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hendersonville moves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the region, and will take on Beech next Friday night.

“We are fortunate to come out of tonight with a win,” Beasley added. “Next week will come down to who wants it more, and I know they are going to give us everything they’ve got.”

Station Camp falls to 0-3 on the season and will host Springfield next week.

Despite not getting the victory, the Bison dedicated the naming of the Fieldhouse to former Station Camp player Kyle Cannon.

“That was a special part of tonight,” Hollinsworth said. “In the grand scheme of things that was the most important thing tonight.”

Cannon played for the Bison from 2002-04, and tragically died in his sleep while stationed in Germany in 2011.
