Clarksville area's top high school football games for Week 4

As we head into Week 4 of the high school football season, here are the Clarksville area's top games, players to watch and predictions.

Game of the week

Montgomery Central (2-1) at Northwest (3-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Montgomery Central is a difficult opponent to prepare for with a veteran offensive line that has five seniors and LaKendriez Sanders, who can carry the ball 25-30 times a game.

Northwest has been perfect in the first three weeks but will get its first big test Friday against a team that was 10-2 last year.

Robinson's pick: Northwest 28, Montgomery Central 20

Hillsboro (1-2) at Kenwood (1-2)

A Kenwood and Northeast player stare at a ball nearly caught by Kenwood's Derionte Gayles (28) at a TSSAA football game between the Kenwood Knights and Northeast Eagles at Kenwood High School in Clarksville, Tenn., on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019.

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Kenwood's difficult schedule continues for another week as the Knights face a talented Hillsboro team that has lost two straight games on the road. The Burros haven't faced Kenwood since 2014 when it ran off with a 55-12 win in the 5A playoffs.

Kenwood has already played Kentucky's Class 4A, ninth-ranked Hopkinsville Tigers and No. 1-ranked Oakland two weeks ago before finally getting a win against Northeast last Friday. But in that win, Kenwood lost its top scoring threat in Kavarius Moody, who injured his ankle.

Robinson's pick: Hillsboro 34, Kenwood 17

Rossview (1-2) at Northeast (0-3)

Rossview's Divonte Phillips (28) looks for a hole to run through in Clarksville's defense during a TSSAA football game between Clarksville and Rossview at Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tenn., on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019.

When: 7 p.m., Friday

The arrival of Gabe Sibert has shifted expectations for Rossview slightly, but the Hawks still come into this Week 4 matchup with a 1-2 record, having lost to Wilson Central 20-14 last week.

The Hawks' two losses have produced only 24 points. And Rossview faces a Northeast team that is still searching for its first win after taking the lead away from Kenwood late in the game only to watch the Knights score in the final minutes to pull out the win.

The Eagles' secondary was exposed against Kenwood, particularly down the middle but offensively, Northeast has the talent to score with anyone.

Robinson's pick: Rossview 28, Northeast 24

Last week: 3-0

Season record: 8-1 (.888)

Players to watch

Malik Rumble, Northeast: Rumble had 113 yards receiving last week in a loss to Kenwood. He and Tomario Vereen provide the Eagles with big, physical wideouts on the outside.

Gabe Sibert, Rossview: Sibert threw a touchdown pass in the Hawks' loss to Wilson Central last week and has produced five TDs in the three games he's played at Rossview since his transfer from Northwest.

LaKendriez Sanders, Montgomery Central: Sanders returns after sitting out last Friday's loss to Portland because of his ejection from the West Creek game two weeks ago. With fresh legs, he'll be the Indians workhorse Friday.

Divontae Phillips, Rossview: Phillips has taken over the lion's share of running back duties for Rossview. He had 57 yards last week but the Hawks need more production from their ground game.

Jaylen Washington, Kenwood: Washington was impressive, picking apart Northeast's secondary for 286 yards and two scores last week. Washington has become a quarterback to watch in Region 7-5A this season.

Robert Baker, Northwest: Baker caught only two passes last week but produced 87 yards as Northwest remains unbeaten.
