West Carroll is off to a 3-1 start, but it didn't come without some late-game dramatics.

The War Eagles trailed Dresden (1-3, 0-2 7-1A) through most of the game, but on the final play, West Carroll's Jeremiah Bryant scored on a quarterback sneak on fourth-and-goal and the 1 to win 20-19.

The War Eagles are 2-0 in Region 7-1A.

Bryant finished with 251 yards and three touchdowns rushing on 27 carries.

West Carroll hosts Gleason, another Region 7-1A opponent, in Week 5. It will be the fourth of five straight home games for the War Eagles.

First win on turf

University School of Jackson opened its new turf field with a 30-7 victory over Tipton-Rosemark.

USJ is 3-0 with a 2-0 mark in Division II-A West region play.

The first touchdown on the new turf came as Brendan Long scored from 85 yards out following a blocked field goal in the first quarter.

Andrew Smith also threw three touchdown passes with Wesley Carlock catching two and Joseph McGrath catching the third.

USJ is back on the road next week, traveling to Jackson Christian, before playing two straight games at home.

Hot start

For the first time since 2001, Greenfield is 4-0 after beating Middle College 34-22.

Keylon Thomas rushed for 141 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.

In 2001, Greenfield started 8-0 before finishing 9-3 and reaching the Class 1A second round.

The Yellowjackets are averaging 41.5 points while giving up 14.0.

Greenfield travels to Dresden for a Region 7-1A contest in Week 5.

Date change

The Gibson County at Peabody game scheduled for Week 11 has been moved up a day.

The teams will play a Region 7-2A contest on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Gibson County was the only team to beat Peabody last year as the Golden Tide went 14-1 and won the Class 2A state championship.

Westview's Quincy Hamilton (17) runs down the field against Obion County during a Week 4 football game at UT Martin on Sept. 13, 2019.

Freshman TDs

Westview showed that a least one freshman has the potential to be a main target for quarterback Ty Simpson for the next couple of years.

Quincy Hamilton caught two passes in a 52-16 win over Obion County, and both receptions ended up in touchdowns as he finished with 94 yards receiving.

Westview (4-0, 1-0 7-3A) plays at Covington in Week 5. Covington has made consecutive appearances in the Class 3A state championship game.
