Huntland's Camille Bland brings the ball up the field during a game Monday against Marshall County High School. Bland scored a hat trick in the 5-0 victory.
The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Marshall County High School Tigerettes 5-0 at home Monday for their fifth win of the season.
The Lady Hornets took control of the contest late in the first half and pulled away in the second half to pick up a blowout victory.
Huntland head soccer coach Scott Worthington said his team played well in the first half to establish some early control of the field.
“It was a good game,” Worthington said. “I thought they played very well in the first half. It was nice to see that.”
The Lady Hornets got their first goal 17 minutes into the first half when Camille Bland received a throw-in from Katherine Clark and punched the shot past the goalkeeper for a score.
Bland added a second goal with 10 minutes remaining in the first half to put the Lady Hornets up 2-0.
The Lady Hornets got one more score just before halftime when Riley Hazard broke free and found the back of the net.
They led 3-0 at halftime.
Bland completed her hat trick for Huntland with 20 minutes remaining in the contest as she scored to make it 4-0.
Clark was awarded a penalty kick with about 15 minutes remaining and fired the shot into the net to bring the final lead up to 5-0.
The Lady Hornets cycled their younger players into the game as the clock ticked away with the score remaining comfortably in their favor.
“It’s always good to get your subs in because they practice and put in as much time as your starters,” Worthington said. “You can’t simulate the game experience in practice.”
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 5-3-2 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at home against Fayetteville City High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
