Millington's Clifton, Houston's Jones named Commercial Appeal athletes of the week

Millington's Tommy Clifton and Houston's Jordan Jones are The Commercial Appeal's athletes of the week.

Clifton, a senior quarterback, rushed for 295 yards and six touchdowns in Millington's 41-34 victory over FACS. He received 1,428 of this week's 3,565 votes. Briarcrest quarterback Michael Dallas, who had 291 total yards and two touchdowns in a win against Madison-Ridgeland Academy (Mississippi) finished second with 1,281 votes. 

Jones, a senior middle blocker, had 12 kills, two blocks, and two digs in a win over St. Agnes. She received 6,395 of this week's 16,621 votes. Briarcrest's Chloe Bryan, who had 12 kills, 3 blocks, and 2 digs in a win over Cookeville finished second with 5,188 votes. 

Clifton and Jones will be invited to this year's Commercial Appeal Sports Awards, presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans. The date has not been set for the 2020 event which features the top high school athletes in the Memphis area.
