Tennessean Midstate high school football top-10 rankings after Week 8

Here's a look at the top 10 high school football teams in Middle Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Sports Network. 

1. Oakland (7-0) – The Patriots come off their open week having given up just seven points over their past three games. Last week: No. 1. This week: vs. Riverdale.

2. Pearl-Cohn (7-0) – Desean Wade leads the Firebirds’ defense with nine sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. Whites Creek.

3. Brentwood (6-1) – The Bruins can lock up the top spot from Region 6-6A on Friday with a win. Last week: No. 3. This week: at Franklin.

4. Ravenwood (6-1) – Quarterback Brian Garcia threw for 197 yards and ran for 52 in a 24-7 win over CPA. Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. Smyrna.

5. Gallatin (7-0) – The Green Wave haven’t given up a point since the fourth quarter against Hillsboro on Sept. 6. Last week: No. 6. This week: vs. Hendersonville.

6. Beech (7-0) – The Buccaneers’ offense is averaging 221 yards a game and has scored 25 rushing touchdowns this season. Last week: No. 7. This week: vs. Station Camp.

7. Henry Co. (6-2) – The Patriots ran for 360 rushing yards in a 52-6 rout of West Creek for their sixth straight win. Last week: No. 8. This week: Open.

8. Cane Ridge (5-2) – The Ravens have averaged 43.4 points during their five-game win streak. Last week: No. 9. This week: vs. Hillsboro.

9. MBA (5-3) – The Big Red held Brentwood Academy to 111 total yards in a 15-7 win and now have beaten DII-AAA powers Memphis University School, Ensworth and the Eagles. Last week: Not ranked. This week: Open.

10. East Nashville (6-1) – The Eagles can lock up second place in Region 5-3A with a win this week. Last week: No. 10. This week: vs. Stratford.
