The Clarksville Lady Wildcats are heading to sectionals after beating the Munford 3-1 on Monday in the Region 7-AAA semifinals. They then lost to the Arlington Tigers in the region finals, meaning they will not host their sectional game.

Additionally, the Northeast Lady Eagles ended their season with a 3-0 loss to Arlington in the region semifinals.

“I think that Arlington knew how to read the court,” said Northeast coach Sam Loranty. “They knew they had the mindset to read where we were. They knew to get to spots that we didn’t know how to do. That prepares me for next year, knowing that we don’t know how to read a court like I thought we did. These are things to work on.

“We didn’t expect to be where we were. To make it to the finals, to make it even to where we are right now, they should be proud that they started something that will last for a while.”

Munford got off to a fast start against Clarksville. They led early in the first set and, despite a vigorous Clarksville comeback, still took it 25-21. However, the Wildcats won the next three sets by an average of 3.3 points.

Arlington, which won its district over Munford last week, proved tougher for the Wildcats in the title game. The inverse of the Munford game happened, as Clarksville took the first set 25-16, and Arlington rallied to win the next three and the game.

“They’re resilient in their passing and their overall chemistry with the team,” said Clarksville coach Glen Fox. “I don’t think they were a ton better than us, I think they just executed a lot better than we did tonight. We lost our mojo so to speak after that first game we played so well. They took it back and they never relinquished it.

“We gotta prepare for a team that’s even better. I just (told) the girls that now the pressure’s all off of you. Nobody expected us to be this far, so now we have to play, play loose, learn. We’re still young, so hopefully the girls learn from what happened to us tonight.”

The Lday Wildcats’ Arya Rogers had 21 kills, 15 digs and four aces. Blakely Wilikinson had 12 kills, 21 digs and two aces. Jordan Steinsultz had six digs and 26 assists. Sydney Weatherford had 16 kills, 17 digs, 20 assists, four aces and seven blocks.

Clarksville will travel to Houston, Memphis Central, White Station or Collierville Thursday at 7 p.m. for a Class AAA sectional match. The winner of that game will advance to the TSSAA state tournament.

Northeast graduates seniors Heather Williams, Natalie Figuenea, Kalli Egger, Mia Lawrence, Deja Johnson, Kiona Ray and Tanesha Hicks.
