FACS's Pittman Jr., Houston's Hobson named Commercial Appeal athletes of the week

First Assembly Christian School's Darrell Pittman Jr. and Houston's Jamya Hobson are The Commercial Appeal's athletes of the week. 

Pittman, a senior running back, rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-21 win over Harding Academy. He received 558 of this week's 1,167 votes. MUS linebacker Charlie Street, who made 10 tackles in the Owls' double-overtime win over Pope John Paul II,  finished second with 249 votes.

Hobson a senior defensive specialist, had 13 kills, 16 digs and two assists in a win over Collierville. She received 1,984 of this week's 4,642 votes. Bartlett's Sarah Burks, who won the 3200 meter run at the Tiger-Panther Invitational in 13.11.88, finished second with 1,700 votes. 

Pittman and Hobson will be invited to this year's Commercial Appeal Sports Awards, presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans. The event, which features the top high school athletes in the Memphis area, takes place on May 13 at the Orpheum Theatre.
