Takeaways: MUS vs Briarcrest will be big; Bartlett has first winning season since 2001

Here are five takeaways Week 10 of high school football in the Memphis area. 

MUS at Briarcrest will be a huge game

After trailing 13-0, MUS rallied with 21 unanswered second-half points to secure a 21-13 win over White Station. Briarcrest shut out Manassas 40-0. The Saints, who are in first place in DII-AAA West, and the Owls, who are tied for second, meet in next week's regular-season finale. If Briarcrest wins, it clinches its first region title in over a decade. 

Christian Brothers hitting its stride

Christian Brothers began the season 2-2 but has won four of its last five games with the loss coming at the last minute to Briarcrest. The Purple Wave beat Wooddale 44-18, marking the fifth time the Purple Wave offense has scored 40 or more. Christian Brothers closes out the regular season at Montgomery Bell Academy. 

Whitehaven has shut out the majority of its opponents 

Whitehaven, which only has nine games on its schedule, posted its fifth shutout with a 39-0 win over Germantown. The Tigers have given up just 30 points all season and seven at home. Whitehaven closes out the regular season with Central, which beat Melrose 40-0. 

Bartlett clinches first winning season since 2001

First-year  coach Lance Tucker has led Bartlett (6-3) to its first winning season since 2001. The Panthers shut out MLK Prep 42-0 Friday night. Bartlett is second in 7-6A behind Houston. 

ECS gets big win over Munford

ECS prevailed 33-13 over Munford and is a game away from matching last year's win total of nine. The Eagles have come a long way since 2017, when they were 4-7. ECS takes on FACS in its regular-season finale next Friday.
