Oakland High School football: A look at the state's longest win streak

Oakland has sole possession of the state's longest winning streak at 26 games.

The winning streak goes back to Week 4 of the 2018 season. Oakland's last loss was a 2018 Week 2 setback (24-21) at Maryville.

Here's a look at the current winning streak, game-by-game:

1. Oakland 70, RePublic 8

Sept. 7, 2018

After a bye, the Patriots rebounded from its only loss of the season to Maryville as QB Brevin Linnell was 6-of-6 for 130 yards and four TDs and also ran for a score. Xavier Myers had 117 yards rushing and two TDs and the Patriots got interception returns for TDs by De'Arre McDonald and Jameer Johnson.

2. Oakland 49, Riverdale 6

Sept. 14, 2018

Myers (160 yards rushing, two TDs) and Linnell (8-of-11, 173 yards, three TDs) were the leaders again on offense in the Battle of the 'Boro victory for Oakland. Linnell was named MVP of the game by the Great American Rivalry series.

3. Oakland 24, Blackman 14

Sept. 21, 2018

Myers was a workhorse in the big Region 3-6A win for Oakland, rushing 33 times for 160 yards and all three Patriot TDs. The Blaze were unbeaten (5-0) entering the game and were actually ranked higher (No. 2) than Oakland (No. 3) in the AP poll.

4. Oakland 53, Coffee Co. 0

Sept. 28, 2018

Mookie Wilson had 88 yards rushing, 21 yards receiving and two TDs in the blowout win. Linnell was 6-of-9 for 132 yards and three TDs and Myers rushed for 117 yards and two TDs.

5. Oakland 45, Franklin 7

Oct. 5, 2018

Myers rushed for 102 yards and two TDs for Oakland while Washington had two receptions for 87 yards and a TD and D.D. Anderson added four receptions for 81 yards and a score.

6. Oakland 62, Siegel 13

Oct. 12, 2018

B.J. Connard rushed for 108 yards and three TDs and Myers added 121 yards and three TDs. Kameron Goodrich had a fumble return for a TD while Woodi Washington had 70 yards receiving and a TD.

7. Oakland 45, Cookeville 7

Oct. 18, 2018

Five different Patriots scored TDs, including Myers, who had 105 yards on nine carries. Tim Pannell and Connard also had rushing touchdowns while Washington hauled in a TD reception from Linnell.

8. Oakland 56, Warren Co. 7

Oct. 24, 2018

The Patriots closed out the regular season with a blowout win to secure first in the region as Linnell threw for 139 yards and three TDs and Myers added 122 yards rushing and two scores.

9. Oakland 49, Rossview 10

Nov. 2, 2018

The first round of the 6A playoffs went much like the regular season as Myers and Connard combined for 259 yards rushing and four TDs. Connard had 103 yards and three scores.

10. Oakland 28, Hendersonville 0

Nov. 9, 2018

Oakland's defense turned it up another notch in the playoffs, with the second-round win over the Commandos being one of three shutouts the Patriots had in the postseason. Myers rushed for 202 yards and two scores.

11. Oakland 14, Mt. Juliet 7

Nov. 16, 2018

The 6A quarterfinals matchup has thus far been the closest game during the win streak. Myers was again the workhorse on a cold, rainy night, rushing 35 times for 152 yards and both Oakland scores. The Patriot defense had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and two sacks.

12. Oakland 38, Maryville 0

Nov. 23, 2018

The Patriots got revenge for an early-season loss and handed the Rebels their biggest loss in more than two decades. McDonald had a 40-yard interception return for a TD as the Patriots forced six turnovers on the night. Myers had 101 yards and two TDs.

13. Oakland 37, Whitehaven 0

Nov. 29, 2018

Oakland closed out the dominant postseason with a state title. Myers, Wilson and Justin Jefferson combined for 229 yards rushing and three TDs as Myers was named MVP. Christian Cantrell fell on a fumble in the end zone for a TD as well.

14. Oakland 59, Hendersonville 0

Aug. 23, 2019

Oakland senior Dejon Glaster, in his first year of playing football, blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown and also scooped up a blocked punt and returned it for another score. Connard rushed for 115 yards and a TD.

15. Oakland 86, Kenwood 14

Aug. 30, 2019

Antonio Patterson rushed for 83 yards and three TDs while Pannell and Connard each rushed for a pair of scores in the blowout win, which marked the debut on the new turf at Ray Hughes Stadium.

16. Oakland 69, Siegel 16

Sept. 6, 2019

Kody Sparks completed 9-of-10 for 182 yards and four TDs and Patterson chipped in with two rushing TDs and a receiving touchdown in the big win over the archrival Stars.

17. Oakland 35, Germantown 8

Sept. 13, 2019

Sparks tossed three touchdown passes as the Patriots built a 35-0 lead and enjoyed a running clock for most of the second half.

18. Oakland 49, Cookeville 0

Sept. 20, 2019

Glaster scored two more defensive touchdowns (fumble recovery, blocked punt recovery) while Sparks passed for 118 yards and two TDs.

19. Oakland 56, Rockvale 7

Sept. 27, 2019

Patterson had a 74-yard TD run and a 55-yard TD reception  while Sparks rushed for a TD and passed for 137 yards and a score.

20. Oakland 40, Blackman 0

Oct. 4, 2019

Vic Stephenson had two punt returns for touchdowns (55, 37) while Glaster returned a fumble for a TD, his fifth defensive score of the season.

21. Oakland 31, Riverdale 14

Oct. 18, 2019

Jordan Brown played his first full game after returning from a leg injury, rushing 21 times for 145 yards and a TD. Pannell added 96 yards rushing and two TDs in the Battle of the 'Boro victory.

22. Oakland 80, Coffee Co. 6

Oct. 25, 2019

The second time the Patriots have surpassed 80 points in 2019, Sparks fired four first-half TD passes and the Patriots, who also had two interception returns for TDs, a fumble return for a score and two kick return TDs.

23. Oakland 49, Warren Co. 14

Nov. 1, 2019

The Patriots actually trailed this game 7-0 and it was tied at 14 early. However, Oakland reeled off 35 consecutive points, sparked by a highlight-reel, 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Dejon Glaster, in which he broke more than 10 tackles and reversed his field along the way.

24. Oakland 34, Lebanon 0

Nov. 8, 2019

The 6A first-round playoff contest was never in doubt, as the Patriots dominated on the defensive end and De'Arre McDonald caught two touchdown passes as the hosts advanced. Three different running backs scored TDs, including a 76-yard scamper by Tim Pannell.

25. Oakland 24, Mt. Juliet 14

Nov. 15, 2019

Oakland's offense struggled to put points on the board for much of three quarters of the second-round playoff contest, but the Patriots put up 21 points in a 10-minute span to put away the Bears. Vic Stephenson scored two rushing TDs out of the Wildcat and Jordan Brown added a 51-yard scoring run in the win.

26. Oakland 31, Blackman 14

Nov. 22, 2019

Oakland's defense was the story again, carrying a shutout into the fourth quarter before Blackman (8-5) tallied two late scores. Blackman running back Antonio Malone rushed 22 times for 117 yards and a TD, but the rest of the team generated just 23 yards.

Now Oakland 13-0 on the season, the Patriots will head east to take on an undefeated to Maryville for the Class 6A semifinal showdown at Maryville on Black Friday. It's the sixth consecutive season the two teams have met in the semis. Maryville has won three of the five semifinals.
