Midstate high school football rankings: Top 10 after second round of playoffs

Here's a look at the top 10 high school football teams in Middle Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Sports Network. 

1. Oakland (12-0) – The Patriots defeated Mt. Juliet 24-14 to reach their seventh straight Class 6A state quarterfinal. Last week: No. 1. This week: vs. Blackman.

2. Ravenwood (11-1) – The Raptors posted their second straight 35-0 postseason shutout. Last week: No. 3. This week: at Brentwood.

3. Pearl-Cohn (12-0) – The Firebirds battled past city rival East Nashville 28-19 to return to the Class 3A state quarterfinals for the fifth time in six seasons. Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. Giles County.

4. Brentwood (10-2) – The Bruins withstood a late Independence rally to win 20-13 and set up a second Battle of the Woods rivalry game. Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. Ravenwood.

5. Henry County (10-2) – A 42-14 rout of Clarksville increased the Patriots’ win streak to 10 entering the Class 5A quarterfinals. Last week: No. 6. This week: vs. Dyer County.

6. Ensworth (8-3) – The Tigers beat Briarcrest Christian 35-33 with two special teams plays – a blocked extra point and stopping a two-point conversion run. Last week: No. 7. This week: at McCallie.

7. Shelbyville (11-1) – The Eagles defeated Beech 20-17 for the Buccaneers’ lone loss of the season and in the process ran their win streak to nine. Last week: No. 10. This week: vs. Summit.

8. MBA (7-4) – The Big Red defense held Chattanooga Baylor to a season-low seven points to advance to the Division II-AAA semifinals. Last week: Not ranked. This week: at Memphis University School.

9. Summit (10-2) – The Spartans avenged a regular-season loss to Page with a 28-3 Class 5A playoff win to reach the quarterfinals for the second time in three years. Last week: Not ranked. This week: at Shelbyville.

10. Blackman (8-4) – The Blaze defeated Hendersonville 28-14 to reach their first Class 6A quarterfinal since 2016. Last week: Not ranked. This week: at Oakland.
