Elizabethton's Shawn Witten is Tennessee Titans football coach of year after 15-0 season, Class 4A title

Shawn Witten, who led Elizabethton to the program's first TSSAA football championship since 1938, has been named the 2019 Tennessee Titans high school football coach of the year.

Witten led Elizabethton to a 15-0 season and won the Class 4A state championship with a 30-6 win over Springfield. The Cyclones outscored their postseason opponents 181-46.

“Shawn Witten is a great coach who we are proud to recognize,” said Josh Corey, Tennessee Titans football outreach manager. “In his 13 seasons at Elizabethton, he has created a strong program that embodies many of the qualities that we celebrate at the Tennessee Titans.

"The success that he and his team have had this season, culminating in a state championship title, speak to the hard work and dedication that they devote to their craft. We look forward to the continued success of Coach Witten and the Cyclones.”

Witten will receive a $2,000 grant from the Titans Foundation to benefit the Elizabethton football program as well as a trip to the 2020 Pro Bowl in Orlando.

Witten is also nominated for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year award. That winner receives $10,000 and his football program is award $15,000.
